WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE WORKSHOPS?:

This masterclass is inspired by the art of 'body first' theatre making. Participants will experience the closeness and the intimacy of moving against and with other performing/devising bodies in space and investigate how to open toward new possibilities of training and creating in collaboration with another. This workshop will lead each person toward a flow state of creating material through improvised adaptive/reactive movement, and how to move, breath, and create action as an ensemble.

Animikii are renowned for their rigorous approach to the training and conditioning of working body to body; how physical work can shape and refine an artist’s sense of listening, supporting and being dynamic with one’s own self. The company pride themselves on a rich ethic of collaboration within the process of theatre making, story-seeking and embodied training. Using the ‘Body First’ philosophy participants will be immersed in body & imagination based exercises and techniques looking at finding and crafting material and work with voice in a physically driven and alive way.

You will get:

  • be immersed in the creative methods and making practices of an Animikii creative process

  • use a combination of embodied performance and improvisation

  • uncover the ritual of a respectful and focused working environment

  • be expected to complete clearly defined creative tasks

  • work rigorously and playfully as an ensemble

  • create individually and be encouraged to build your ideas

About Adam:

Adam is a working class actor/writer/director born and raised on a council estate in the former mining town of Pontefract, West Yorkshire. His passion for theatre and story-telling stemmed from his first interactions with drama that is character driven and rooted in the complexity of human to human relationships.

He originally trained in Manchester as an actor before going on to write and produce his own plays, comedy sketches and short films before attending one of the UK’s leading MA programmes, Theatre Lab at RADA. His performance & training work on stage, street and screen has allowed him to work and train with the very best that the world has to offer including street theatre companies AVANTI DISPLAY and ARTIZANI THEATRE, Liverpool based physical theatre company TMESIS THEATRE, and tutors such as MATEJ MATEJKA and MARGARET PIKES.

ADAM’s movement direction and choreography has seen him work both in theatre and film on productions such as Frankenstein at THE DUKES THEATRE in Lancaster and with REDBOBBLE ARTS on If I Should Fall. He also works across a range of UK wide drama schools and universities leading workshops and projects for actors, singers and dancers at institutions such as the LIPA, RADA, EAST 15, RNCM and LEEDS CONSERVATOIRE.
