WHAT IS “SINGING AS LIFE PRACTICE”?

The masterclass weekend workshop will take you into the following areas of practice:

TECHNIQUE: Through body work of release, activation, neuro-physiology, we will explore how to release the voice, as well as support and expand it expressive range.

PROCESS: We will work with “vocal resonators” explore how your voice is linked to your body, which in turn holds your biography. Through this individuals begin to articulate and access a variety of vocal archetypes and emotional range.

FORM: As well as working imaginatively with a story and with ourselves, using polyphonic songs where body, voice and imagination meet so that participants learn to sing not just notes but stories.

About Emma:

Emma Bonnici is a dynamic actor, singer, and teacher. Her work is influenced greatly by her work with two award-winning theatre companies - Song of the Goat Theatre and Teatr Zar. This is coupled with extensive vocal work -Met Opera House, Jonathan Hart Makwaia, as well as ethno-musical expeditions. In 2015 Emma was invited to give a TedX on her work 'The Power of the Voice'

“In the individual class, she’s prepared but in the moment she’s intuitive and adapts. I discover sounds I could never imagine I could do, it’s a mystery, I listen to my own voice and it surprises me, my own production of sounds, it’s not the highest or lowest sounds, but the colour”

  • Celia, Clown/Teacher

“I have been to traditional singing teachers. – it's often way too mechanical and does not take into place the emotional side.”

  • Tim David, Composer/Performer

“It’s like you are learning the song of your soul. We are learning a song, but the song is a channel. It is not the song for the songs sake, though it is amazing. It is aboutly meeting your own song and your own voice and how does your own voice inhabit you and sound.”

  • Yasmeen, Performer
